Welcome to the wiki and blog for IFS - St. Louis
This is the place for information about and interaction with the
community of St. Louis practitioners of Internal Family Systems. IFS is
a system of Self understanding that is used in psychotherapy,
education, community development, and as a personal spiritual practice.
For more information about IFS we suggest you go to the site of the
Center for Self Leadership which is the central source for teaching about IFS. In addition, you may want to check out the
Internal Family Systems Association or IFSA which is an international membership organization.
Introduction
Internal Family Systems was introduced to the St. Louis area in 2000
when a therapist trained elsewhere moved here. Since then there have
been several trainings by the Center for Self Leadership and there is a
growing community of therapists and others who have taken the training
or who have attended the annual conferences.
It is our goal to promote the community of IFS
trained practitioners by conducting introductory events and supporting
gatherings for practicing and expanding our skills. Our first event
will be a training in the style of Level One and Two with a two-day
schedule of meditation, demos, triads, and discussion. For more
information, click the Spring Training link on the left or

I am beginning a conversation with Jon Schwartz at CSL about possible future trainings for St. Louis. The requirements to consider St. Louis as a training site are currently as follows:
For Level I there must be 40 individuals on an interest list.
For Level II there must be 30 individuals on the list.
So, for any of you who are interested in Level II training, be sure to add your name to the interest list for St. Louis at
www.selfleadership.org. I think the list will be up to 30 with a few inclusions. CSL's second step is to query the interest list to get a feel for how many are ready to make a commitment to training, then they look at staffing and administrative issues.
There is no current interest list for another Level I for St. Louis. CSL prefers to have "hub cities" for trainings, and currently St. Louis is not one of them. If we generate more interest, we can probably nudge them for another training. So, if you know of anyone else who is interested in Level I training, please have them call or email me with contact information.

We are fast approaching the final Weekend of the current Level One IFS Training here in St. Louis. On Saturday evening, August 2, 2008, you are invited to a picnic at the home of Siobhan Brace to meet the current class of trainees and to hear Einat Bronstein talk about her work in Israel to promote IFS.
We will be gathering after the training ends for the day so if you are not coming from the training expect that the picnic will not really get going until 7:00. Please bring a side dish to share (chips, salad, dessert). The Braces will provide meat and drink but if you desire a particular beverage, feel free to bring it as well.
Their home is at

As a Closing for the Level One training this weekend (third), Marni shared this from a book at the site.
Trust your divine Nature;
disentangle from external demands.
The Tao is content to be itself,
neither competing, nor comparing.
In search of nothing,
in finds everything exactly as it
should be.
There is only one time in which it is
essential to awaken.
Now is the time,
here is the place,
You are the
Way.
Welcome home.

I wrote this essay as a response to questions about the nature of conflict resolution for a class that I am teaching at Eden Seminary. It does not refer to IFS specifically but you will not have any trouble seeing the relevance to parts work.
Each part has its own perspective. Conflict resolution is essentially a matter of discovering a perspective from which the needs of all the parties can be met.
The full essay is

The introduction that Mary and Uri did last week was very well received and the next one is set for May 4. Tell your friends and colleagues. We are going to lobby CSL to set up interest lists for Level One and Level Two trainings here.

Be sure to check the calendar for more information about two events coming in January and February. The January event is an introduction to IFS led by Mary DuParri and Uri Talmor. Then in February Uri will follow-up with a revision and refinement of the workshop that he did at the Annual Conference this year.
Just click on the Calendar tab under Spaces in the left column.

This is the inaugural post in the blog for the IFS-StL community. Come on, post something.
We will soon have information about Uri Talmor's presentation in January so keep coming back. Or better still, use the RSS feed so that you are immediately notified whenever new information is added to this site.
